Solomon C. Wilbert, 88, of Ames, IA passed away on April 12th 2010.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 17th, at 10 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas parish and Student Center. Rev. Everett Hemann of St. Thomas Aquinas will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 16th at 7 PM at St. Thomas Aquinas. Burial will follow at the Ames Municipal Cemetery at 1 PM. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Stevens Funeral Home of Ames, IA.
Solomon was born in Huxley IA, on March 8th 1922. He graduated from Ames High School in May of 1940 and immediately enlisted in the United States Army. After serving as a clerical aide in the Logistics and Supply Office, Solomon was honorably discharged on October 17th, 1946 and returned to Ames. Solomon worked as a journalist for the Ames Tribune for 55 years. He enjoyed researching local history and archiving various documents.
Solomon Wilbert never married and had no children. Solomon is survived by his sister-in-law Dora Wilbert and his three nephews Kasey, Dexter, and Drake. Solomon is preceded in death by his mother Liza, his father Patrick, and his brother Kyle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Ames Historical Society.
